I’m excited to announce that I have been chosen as a finalist in the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest!! I won this award for my song, The Exit, and I couldn’t be more honored!! If you didn’t already know this, I grew up listening to the Beatles and always felt a special connection to John Lennon and his music. In fact, people would often ask me who taught me to write songs, and my response has always been that I learned simply from listening to and studying the music of the Beatles over the years. Every single song they wrote would draw you in and keep you captivated from beginning to end, and as a result I would always strive to do the same. Lennon’s songs (especially) always had such substance to them. As a matter of fact, later in his career he often took a stand on social issues and sang about peace and love. My song, The Exit, is just that type of song. The lyrics talk about about standing up in the face of adversity…about being yourself even when it is diffult and knowing that even though things might be tough for you now, they will get better. I entered The Exit into the contest because I believed that if John Lennon was alive today, he would have appreciated the message of this song. I’d like to thank all of the esteemed judges from around the world who took time to listen to this song and see it as something special. I couldn’t be more honored.
